Golden Bay Hideaway

Take a vacation in Kiwi Greenie and enjoy a future-thinking holiday house that catches all the afternoon sun, stores it, and maintains a comfortable temperature at any time of year.

Kiwi Greenie may appear to be just another modern, professionally finished house with stunning views in a beautiful location. Of course everyone will notice some differences sooner or later, but those interested in environmental technology and smart building will find the differences go right down to the foundations.

Kiwi Greenie is designed with four major principles in mind: Energy efficiency, low maintenance/longevity, ease of construction and value for money. It takes eco-home design a step further and improves on the award-winning foundation achieved in Little Greenie. It may be modern, but it’s not about frills or fashion; and while it is unashamedly utilitarian, it’s definitely not drab or boring. It's a living, breathing home.

We had a really lovely stay here! It was especially relaxing soaking in the bath while taking in the outstanding views. The accommodation itself was excellent clean and well-equipped with all the cooking essentials (and more). We slept really well too the bed was comfortable, and the skylight above made it extra special to lie back and watch the stars at night. The property is beautiful, and we really appreciated the focus on sustainability and environmentally conscious living. Overall, we had a great time and would happily recommend

We loved our stay. A glass of wine while watching the sunset from the run was worth the whole trip on its own.

The House Truck is amazing! My girlfriend and I stayed for two nights as a stopgap and recharge from touring in a camper. We didn’t want to leave!

Wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your recharge in the House Truck! Hopefully it was a step up in spaciousness from the campervan :)

Very cool experience to stay in the truck house. It was quirky, peaceful and relaxing. We did the walk to Taupo point. We loved sitting in the bath with a bevy watching the sunset. Thanks for having us!

That's one of our fav things to do as well Sally!! Many thanks for your review and for your support, kind regards - Kylie and Lawrence

We had a lovely stay here! Very comfortable and cosy. Views were incredible from sunrise to sunset, especially from the bath. Adored the visits from the friendly little Weka.

Wonderful Charlie! We appreciate your review so much and are thrilled you had a great time. Many thanks Kylie and Lawrence

This place is a haven of peace with one of the most incredible views we've ever seen! We didn't know about passive houses. We enjoyed it, even though it got a bit hot. Regarding access, we were in a camper van: the road is really narrow and not paved, but it eventually gets better, and the view from the top is worth it ;)

Thanks so much Lisa, we are delighted you enjoyed the view and the passive house. Cheers! Kylie and Lawrence

The Little Greenie is truly a magical oasis! The home was beautiful, comfortable and private, with the most spectacular view (and stars!) I've ever seen. 2 Wekas (birds) greeted us every morning, which was a fun treat. We also really enjoyed the lack of TVs and wifi, as it forced us to unplug, connect and really immerse ourselves in the incredible surroundings. The toilet does take some getting used to, but another guest recommended just not looking down, and that did the trick for us! Golden Bay, the Abel Tasman and the Little Greenie were some of the highlights of our trip!

Excellent tip! Good on you for enjoying the acoustic experience Tyler, we hope you'll be able to return one day - many thanks, Kylie and Lawrence

The Tiny House is located on a hill in the open countryside. The view of the bay and the sea is beautiful. Since the night sky was clear, we even had a magnificent view in the dark. We enjoyed the peace and quiet in the very well equipped small house.

Wonderful Barbara, we're delighted you enjoyed the seclusion and the view...the night sky is very special alright :). Happy travels, Kylie and Lawrence

There are many beautiful stays offered on this property. This one is no exception, it was extremely private and comfortable. The place can get toasty in the day even with the blinds down, but the stay is very easy to cool down at night time. The fan at the bed is heaven sent. My wife and I enjoyed our stay!

Many thanks Jonathon, it's a great idea to keep all those doors and windows open for ventilation on those hot summer days for sure. Kind regards - Kylie and Lawrence

The house truck is a special experience for sure, it was built with a lot of love and care. If you go here definitely make sure to be 'at home' in the evening because the sunset makes the view even more stunning. The resident weka are also very funny haha!

Yay! Great you got some sunsets to enjoy Sophie, the House Truck is certainly a fun and unique holiday stay. Cheers - Kylie and Lawrence

The Tynie-Greenie is a jewel in Wainui Bay. The view is simply terrific, the accommodation is extremely well maintained and the kitchen leaves nothing to be desired. The daily visit to Weka rounds off the overall offer. Simply recommend staying longer!

Many thanks Dani, we've been travelling around NZ ourselves this summer and so we have realised just how blessed we are with all of the birdlife we have in Wainui. Many thanks for your support - Kylie and Lawrence

We came here after some friends had been a couple of years ago and raved about how good it is. We would say that the views from this property are quite incredible, and have to be seen to be truly appreciated. The house itself is very comfortable and has an interesting eco history. The toilet takes a bit of getting used to but we found that it’s ok as long as you don’t look down!! Honestly, it’s not an issue and it is perfectly in keeping with the eco status of the house. Dealing with hosts was very easy and the one problem we had with the cooker was dealt with very swiftly by the friendly and helpful managers (Maria and husband). Golden Bay is a beautiful part of the world and this place is a great way to experience it.

Brilliant review Peter, many thanks for your feedback and acknowledgment of our managers (Maria and Fabian). It's great to hear and of course that word of mouth recommendation is extremely important to us, all the best, Kylie and Lawrence

we loved the location- on top of a hill, dense foliage so you can't see or hear any of the neighboring lodges, with a view of the ocean with rising and ebbing tides. birds come by either by flight or just strutting around. the garage was very convenient and we loved the table we could sit/dine at. the bed is in a place where you can wake up to the view, and we loved all the windows- both for the scenery and the air flow. Instructions were very clear and we felt right at home. while the water pressure was weak in the shower, the set-up and location more than make up for it. we loved how eco-friendly it was too!

Fantastic, thanks for taking the time to write a thoughtful review Nathan, we're pleased the instructions were clear and easy to follow. Kind regards - Kylie and Lawrence

Such a good spot with views! Make sure you bring bug spray as we got bitten alive.

Cheers Zoe, the bugs can be a pain and seem to come and go a little depending on the season. We are pleased you enjoyed the views though!

Incredible property, beautiful house, and absolutely unbeatable view. Our two year old loved chasing around the local weka and really enjoyed having his baths outside. The composting toilet did take a bit of getting used to, but all good after a few goes!

It's lovely to hear your son enjoyed his outside baths and weka encounters Jeanne, thanks so much for staying with us and for your thoughtful review, great that you got used to the toilets :)

Breathtaking view of Wainui Bay. So relaxing and calm. The weka birds were a great experience! They're so friendly around the property. The Tiny Green house was so bright, clean, homey. The views were the best! The privacy of it was a bonus. Easy to follow instructions for proper recycling and using the composting toilet. It was great! Lawrence and Kylie should be so proud of what they have created. Wished we could of stayed longer. 5/5 !

It's such a pleasure to have you stay Lorrraine - many thanks for the wonderful review

I’ve never left a poor review, however given the price which you pay vs what you receive (inc service/communication), this AirBnB wasn’t worth it. We wish we booked elsewhere, because: - home is listed as ‘entire house’ & despite the cleaning premium you pay via AirBnB you’re not permitted to sit on the second bed without a $50 penalty, you must use the toilet compost for food waste (quite gross when cooking instead of the business investing in a food compost) & visitor must sort & discard recycling at a separate location (which you have to drive to) on departure - kitchen is deficient eg no proper sponge/baking paper - flimsy microfibre cloths provided as ‘towels’ - linen is old and felt crusty, windowsill beside bed had hair/dust/dead bugs - storm and wind both nights - house physically sways waking you up - we did not get a proper sleep - no key provided to lockup if you go out for the day The spot is beautiful & private but not up to standard for the $

We appreciate your feedback and business Barb, however it is a shame that you didn't raise these issues with us in person while here as we could have explained and hopefully made your stay less stressful, although we can't help a storm and strong winds unfortunately. There should be baking paper in the kitchen and there is a key to lock up right next to the door handle, so a quick call could have helped you locate those. No, we don't use sponges due to hygiene, in line with our environmental values we use high quality, Norwex products made from recycled materials. This reduces the chemicals required to clean and decreases drying time. Towels ‘feel’ different to cotton but are highly absorbent, fast drying and long lasting. By only making up beds that will be used by guests we help to keep our rates down and we believe they represent excellent value for money, given our location and the high performance passive house features, this is well explained in our listing descriptions. Composting, off grid systems can be a new and confronting experience for some guests however mostly people come away with a new appreciation for it's simplicity. Yip, we are passionate about recycling and encourage all our guests to participate in that process. We just think it's an awesome thing to do for the planet, rather than a chore that diminishes your departure. Neighbouring the Abel Tasman National Park, we are as accessible as any accomodation provider there is, the track starts just down the road and we can shuttle you right into the centre of the park to explore further. We do our best to provide an enjoyable and restful retreat and certainly believe that in terms of value for money our accommodations are exceptional. Our review rating says it all. Happy travels, Lawrence and Kylie.

Great place, very remote, mosquitoes 🦟 in the house very nasty at night, even with full body spray

Thanks for staying Anton. The mossies can be more prevalent at certain times of the year. Our suggestion for other guests is to close and spray the rooms with the provided fly spray before bed, and then wait 10 minutes before retiring and keep the insect screens closed for ventilation. Best wishes - Kylie and Lawrence
